15 - Dante's Inferno : Highway to Hell

2026-10-0531:35

Tonight we travel through the nine levels of Hell with our exploration into Dante's Inferno. I've wanted to read this for a while and really see what all the fuss was about...I really just wanted to get into the imagery of Dante's Hell, and what I found was this is what most people's "Hell" looks like. That's interesting to me. I'm glad I've read it, I'm ready to talk about it and just chill. Let's get into this epic.If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 14 - Hannibal Barca : Barc at the Moon

2026-09-2147:46

Tonight we talk about Hannibal Barca. He was a horrible pain in Rome's side for a long time. The majority of damage was done early in his campaign but after that he spent 14 freakin' years just roaming around Rome and messing things up here and there. Hannibal never really lost a battle. Rome even at their height was unable to kill him and some Roman leaders even respected him. Hannibal was so effective in military tactics we still study his techniques today in military academies across the globe and almost nothing from his place of birth has existed for over 2200 years except tiny fragments...but people wrote about Hannibal. Tonight we'll talk about that...right after we get right. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 13 - The Gregorian Calendar : Back in Time

2026-09-0727:57

Today we talk about the Gregorian Calendar. I did want to do an episode on all calendars but that would take multiple episodes...I decided against that. I narrowed it down to our current calendar (in the States and the calendar most countries use for at least business needs). Still snuck a little early time evolution in here but for the most part we're getting to our calendar and that is the Gregorian Calendar. So let's burn one and chat about why we call this time what it is today, and what wild rascals decided it needed to be fixed in the first place. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 12 - Disaster Movie : The Making of The Island of Dr. Moreau

2026-08-2428:03

Today we talk about the shit show that was, The Island of Dr. Moreau. I was 10 when this movie came to theaters and I remember seeing it. I don't remember how it was completely obvious that no one on screen seemed like they even wanted to be there...I noticed this later in life, but I heard of this production and I felt that it is absolutely wild enough to be talked about on the show. I have a special spot for filmmakers anyway. So sit back, let's spark one up, and chat about the good, bad, and weird times everyone had while shooting The Island of Dr. Moreau. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 11 - Marilyn Monroe : Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend

2026-08-1040:16

Tonight we talk about Marilyn Monroe. One of the most, if not THE most, famous actresses of all time. Growing up a lot of my friends were into Marilyn but honestly other than liking some photos and watching a few movies, I really didn't know too much about her. I'm glad I know more about this. Marilyn was very interesting and inspiring to anyone trying to change their life from what seems to be destined for them. If you have time to chill then it's time to hang out and talk about this glamorous gal. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 10 - The Odyssey Pt. 2 : Home Sweet Homer

2026-07-2735:56

This week we're finishing up Homer's epic The Odyssey . Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey came to theater's a few weeks ago and we felt this was a good time to go over Odysseus' journey. We do eventually plan on doing all the remaining epics connected to Troy (the ones we still have anyway The Iliad and The Aeneid) but with this being more relevant right now we decided why not. Let's chill and talk about our hero's journey home and how he takes care of the sinful suitors. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 2026-07-1341:21

This week we're doing an epic Homer's Odyssey . Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey comes out in theater's this week and we felt this was a good time to go over Odysseus' journey. We do eventually plan on doing all the remaining epics connected to Troy (the ones we still have anyway The Iliad and The Aeneid) but with this being more relevant right now we decided why not. Let's chill, burn, and learn about Odysseus' adventure from the battles in Troy to his home in Ithaca. 08 - The Ptolemaic Dynasty : Walk Like An Egyptian

2026-06-2935:34

Today on the Stoned Ape Podcast we'll be talking about the Ptolemaic Dynasty. The last and longest Egyptian dynasty spawned from the result of conquests of Alexander the Great...but how they held on to this dynasty was a little...incesty. After the death of Alexander and going to Cleopatra VII we'll chat about the 300 year reign of one of the most powerful, strange, and dangerous families from antiquity. After a busy weekend I'm ready to chill with you guys.  Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/stonedapepod/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/The-Stoned-Ape-Podcast-with-Wes-Ranson/61579933093042/#Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/@ThestonedapepodPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/cw/stonedapepodSupport the show

03 - Evolution of Music Pt. 1 : Can't You Hear Me Knocking

2026-04-2036:32

Ever wonder where music came from in the first place ? Why we sing ? Music gets deep or not deep at all depending on the sound and how we feel at the time. I played in a few bands when I was younger and it has always been very important to me, but I never looked into how it evolved in the first place. Most of this is tame enough but like all topics if you dive deep enough can get a little weird. Let's chill a bit and talk about it on today's evolutionary audio exploration. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 02 - Phillip II of Macedonia : Phil It Still

2026-04-2053:49

Time to relax and hear a tale... Where did Alexander come from and what made him so great? Some say his father, and I second that notion. Phillip II took his people from near extinction to Greece's first great empire! He was a great diplomat but he also kicked a lot of ass to get there. At that time kicking ass was the most popular way of getting things. Not too different than today. Let's learn about Alexander's pops during today's sesh. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review. 01 - The Stoned Ape Theory : Fungus Among Us

2026-04-2031:27

After reading Terrance McKenna's book "Food of the Gods" it gave me a lot to think about and even more to say. The Stoned Ape Theory has fascinated me since I fist heard about it. Not that I completely agree with all that he hypothesises I do think it is an interesting idea and good attempt at thinking outside the box about how early man came to be. Or could have. It's more of a what if than an actual theory but an exciting what if. Let's relax, smoke one, and talk about why we are the way we are... Looking into what possibly could have jumpstarted mankind as we know it today. If you liked the episode leave us a comment or a review.
