Stories Of Taking Veterans Back To Vietnam With Col Martin Jeremy Bowling Of The Longest Climb Foundation

2026-08-2722:08

A couple years ago, I traveled to Vietnam with the family of Medal of Honor recipient Sgt Rodney Maxwell Davis to visit the battlefield where Sgt Davis was killed in action. One of the organizers of that trip was Chattanooga native and retired Army Colonel Martin Jeremy Bowling. On their first trip to Vietnam in 2019 they took a group of Veterans who fought at the Battle of Hamburger Hill back to that battle ground. Then in 2024 they visited the Que Son Valley where Sgt Davis sacrificed himself on a grenade to save five of his Marine Corps brothers. And since that trip Colonel Bowling, along with other organizers from those efforts, established a non-profit called the Longest Climb Foundation, and now that group has joined with several other groups and are working to take more veterans and their families on reconciliation trips back to important battle sites in Vietnam. On this episode, I talk to Colonel Bowling about the important work he and the others are doing to bring closure and healing for those Vietnam Veterans and their families.SHOW NOTES:You can learn more about the Longest Climb Foundation here: https://www.longestclimbfoundation.org/If you are interested in the book John Hollis wrote about Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. The U.S. Forces in Hue are clearly out numbered, they haven't been trained for urban environments, the rules of engagement in the battle are different than anything they've seen before, they continue being sent out on missions that are deadly and appear to be impossible, and the officers know that their command does not understand the situation on the ground in Hue. She passed away after battling illnesses for several years. Then just a few days after that happened Alvin and Zandra's grand-daughter Air'ra Wilson was killed in a car crash. She was just weeks away from her high school graduation. On what would have been her 18th birthday, I went to talk to her friends and loved ones. They wanted to celebrate what Air'ra Wilson meant to them.On this episode of Tomorrow Town, Tennessee we hear from friends and loved ones sharing their memories of Air 'ra Wilson.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
