Minor Prophets: Malachi Lesson Four
Chapter two is a continuation of Chapter 1, God is still addressing the priests about their attitude. Attitude is usually the problem with our failures in service to God. We, like the priest, think our service is laborious, or contemptible, or simply not worth it. God is attempting to speak to the attitude of the priest. I would imagine there would be some that would say to the Lord, “Well, I am doing the service you require, I preform the sacrifices, I clean the temple, I do my duty.” But they do it halfhearted. God does not want half halfhearted service, He wants our whole heart. Minor Prophets: Malachi Lesson Two
As we get into this final book of the Old Testament, and the final book in this study, we see a man that is going to hit fast and hard. Malachi is going to touch on subjects that are close to the heart of people. He is going to start out by reassuring the Love of God. It is easy to speak harshly to people, but as Christians we should also represent God as a loving God, not just one that judges. Malachi last of the Minor Prophets, I pray as we head into this we see the minor prophets were only minor because of the size of the books not because of the content of the books. I have often thought as we have went thorough these books, how could someone being a Jew, not recognize Jesus as Messiah, and see what is happening now as a fulfillment of the prophecies of the Bible? Minor Prophets: Zechariah Lesson Ten
As we approach the last chapters of the book of Zechariah, we start to get a glimpse at the end time prophecies. The Gentile nations attacking Israel, the time of Jacobs troubles, the Jews experiencing great tribulations and the Lord coming back with Power and Glory. This is the second oracle, or message of Zechariah, (Last week we looked at the first) and one of the themes we will see in it is the “Day of the Lord”. The phrase the day of the Lord is found 16 times in these three chapters. It is also worth noting the word Jerusalem is mentioned 52 times in the book of Zechariah and 22 of them are in the last 3 chapters. As we looked at last week, the Lord loved and is Jealous of Israel, as stated in the first chapter. And God is determined to draw them back into a vibrant relationship with Him. Remember that everything we have studied has been leading up to this, God drawing Israel back into that relationship and the eventual 2nd coming of the Lord to rule with Power and Glory. Minor Prophets: Zechariah Lesson Nine
In the last parts of the book of Zechariah, we find a lot of prophecies about the coming Messiah and about the future of Israel. It comes in the form of two “Burdens” or oracles. In these last chapters we will see Jesus/ Messiah as: Humble King, Loving Shepherd, Mighty Warrior, Gracious Savior, Righteous Ruler, King & Priest.
