The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Making a Movie in Shrewsbury

2026-10-121:07:37

Shrewsbury is bracing itself for the arrival of First Christmas, and we’re back with another brilliant instalment following our chat with Luke Allen and Alyssa Roehrenbeck.Recorded at The Loopy Shrews, Alex sits down with Luke, Alyssa, and director Keith Wilhelm Kopp to unpack everything from local reactions to the film, to the surprisingly intense commitment to historical accuracy, to the eternal question: should Luke ever be allowed near a hacksaw?Funding is the big talking point right now, with local businesses and residents offering support, skills, and the occasional favour‑for‑favour arrangement that would make a medieval trader proud. This episode digs into how people can get involved and why the community’s enthusiasm is already shaping the project. We’ll be following First Christmas throughout its long, winding journey — so consider this another cracking chapter in whatever wonderfully chaotic anthology this adventure is becoming.Intro/outro music - Talk by Ease The Artist

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Meet the Team

It’s finally time to meet the new Team Biscuit. Alex sits down with Producer Tristan Copeland, Co‑host Emma Bacon, and Co‑host Hollie Jones — all in the same room, for the first time ever. Not just recording together… literally meeting together. This was meant to be nothing more than a mic test, but the chemistry was ridiculous, so here it is: a full episode for you to enjoy. We’re buzzing about what’s coming next for The Shrewsbury Biscuit, and if this first chaotic, brilliant get‑together is anything to go by, you should be too.Shrewsbury won’t know what’s hit it.Intro/Outro music – Talk by Ease The Artist

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: There's More Festival

2026-09-2847:07

Join Alex as he captures some audible insight from There’s More Festival, a gathering of genuinely wonderful people at The Haybarn near Church Stretton. This whole festival exists because of one man whose loss of all his belongings led him into this community. From that moment, something beautiful grew — and now he’s created his own festival and invited that same community back to him. That man is John, and you’ll hear his story in this episode.Alex then dives into 90 minutes of peace dancing and chats with his fellow dancers, including River, who you may remember from an episode a few weeks back.We promised to bring you this episode, and here it is. I’m genuinely glad to have met these brilliant people. The message from this event is simple: sometimes we all need to slow down, soften those tough exteriors we build around ourselves, and find a space where we can just let go. Seek out an event like this — you won’t be disappointed.Intro/Outro music – Talk by Ease the Artist.

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Shropshire's Marathon Men

2026-08-101:12:11

This week’s Biscuit comes to you from the gorgeous beer garden at The Nag’s Head, where Alex sits down with Danny and Ben — Shropshire’s very own Marathon Men. These two have smashed marathon after marathon and keep levelling up with new challenges. Their latest? The T‑100: a one‑shot, 100‑mile run around a 50‑mile route created to celebrate 50 years of Telford being a town. What pulled me (and my mics) toward Dan and Ben — aside from their charm — is that they take on these wild challenges not for fame or glory, but for fun and comradery. Truly ridiculous behaviour. On 29/08/2026, Ben and Dan will tackle the T‑100, and they’re inviting you to get involved however you can: cheer them on, run a stretch with them, set up mariachi bands… whatever keeps them moving through this monster of a run.Follow them for details: Danny – https://www.instagram.com/93newell/ Ben – https://www.instagram.com/bentherunner/Best of luck, lads — this is your biggest challenge yet.Intro/Outro Music: Talk by Ease the Artist

2026-08-031:10:29

The amazing Shrimp Biscuit collaboration is back. Joel and Mitchell from The Talking Shrimp Podcast are back on the Shrewsbury Biscuit. In a couple of episodes you will hear Joel and Mitchell expertly takeover The Shrewsbury Biscuit for The Shrewsbury Town Open Day. What better way to set things up than to get together, chat about the pre-season transfers, talk about their love for the team and play some games. one game called "Un'foot'unate Names" featuring some funky footballer names but are they real or fake? Then there's a bog standard Shrewsbury Town true or false quiz which you can all take part in.Joel and Mitchell have had an adverse affect on Alex which has cause pod-tastic repercussions. Here we have Shrimp Biscuit 2: Electric Boogaloo, because in all honesty, why the hell not?!!Intro/outro music - Talk by Ease The Artist

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Shrewsbury Food Festival 2026

2026-07-201:18:55

Here’s our coverage of Shrewsbury Food Festival 2026 — easily one of my favourite fixtures in the Shrewsbury calendar. Every year this festival delivers something new, and honestly, I could record this episode in the same format forever and it would still feel fresh. That’s the magic of it: when it comes to interesting people to chat to, the Food Festival is absolutely bursting at the seams.Across this episode I speak to stall holders, chefs, musicians, and even a Marmite enthusiast who was living their best life in the heat. The range of voices, stories and passions you find here is exactly why I love doing this show.A huge thank you to everyone who took the time to speak to me during what turned out to be an extraordinarily hot weekend. You made this episode what it is.Intro/Outro Music – Talk by Ease the Artist.

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Dana, Dana, Dana Batman Ft Mike Perkins

2026-07-2025:56

This Bat-Mite‑sized episode of The Shrewsbury Biscuit comes to you from the brilliant Swan Hill Studios, one of the town’s finest creative hubs. Today’s guest is a familiar favourite: the ridiculously talented comic‑book artist Mike Perkins.Mike’s worked with Marvel, DC, 2000 AD and more, and if you’ve somehow missed it, he’s part of the Batman: The Bat‑Man First Knight run — a series that even sneaks in Shropshire landmarks like the Dana Prison. As we recorded, Mike was hosting his exhibition Dana, Dana, Dana Batman at Swan Hill, which is a cracking title.I never need an excuse to catch up with Mike, but this was the perfect moment. The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Greysha

2026-06-2955:56

Last year at Loopfest, Alex and Timmy grabbed a quick soundbite with Greysha — one of those brilliant little moments that instantly made us say, “We need her back for a full episode.” And now… here it is.Greysha is a ridiculously talented Shropshire musician who’s been playing live shows since her teens. Her music is beautifully polished, her videos are genuinely stunning, and here’s the part that makes her stand out: she is independent as heck — her words. She’s the musician, the video editor, the creative force, and the architect of her own universe. Everything you see and hear is her.So please, go show this amazing artist some love. 2026-06-151:31:25

Something special is happening in Shrewsbury. A new film is being made right here in town, led by friend of the show Luke Allen, who’s brought along Executive Producer Alyssa Roehrenbeck — flying in from the States for a whirlwind week. This episode takes a few scenic detours, but Alex eventually sits down with Luke and Alyssa to dig into what makes this project so exciting: how Shrewsbury’s character shapes the film, why the script is already turning heads, and yes — Luke finally gets to talk about that incredible cast. You might spot Dean‑Charles Chapman, Mark Addy, Russell Tovey, Eleanor Tomlinson and more wandering around Shrewsbury as First Christmas begins filming. The Biscuit has even been invited to help document the journey with regular updates, and Luke’s promised we can come on set for interviews. So consider this episode the starting point of that adventure.A brilliant chat. Thanks, Luke and Alyssa

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Chloe Hatfield

2026-06-081:16:05

This week’s episode of The Shrewsbury Biscuit brings you a face that just is Shrewsbury. Whether you’ve spotted her on Pride Hill selling flowers from her bike or heard her bright voice on the Friday Morning Show on InTune Radio, Chloë Hatfield is woven into the fabric of this town. What was meant to be a simple chit‑chat somehow turned into Alex and Chloë tackling one of life’s great debates: the correct dessert‑to‑ice‑cream ratio. Only the hottest topics on this show.Chloë opens up about her long‑standing love for flowers and radio, and the graft, heart, and sheer joy she pours into “Chloë’s Flowers”. The fact she runs it all from her bike on Pride Hill says everything you need to know about her spirit.Chloë, thanks for popping by — you’re good people, and the door’s always open.Intro/Outro music: Talk by Ease the Artist

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Shrimp Biscuit

2026-06-011:16:00

Today’s episode is an absolute riot. Alex sits down with Mitchell and Joel, the brilliantly chaotic duo behind the Talking Shrimp Podcast. These two have splashed a fresh, relatable, wonderfully unfiltered energy onto the Shrewsbury podcast scene — so of course Alex had to get them on The Biscuit.Naturally, life did its thing and turned a simple idea into a six‑month odyssey… but the wait was worth every second, because this episode is finally here and it is gloriously unhinged.Alex brings along a couple of games — “Hot Takes” and “The 2 Minute Sell,” where everyone must passionately pitch a completely random object for two whole minutes. Things escalate quickly. Dignity is lost. Chaos reigns. Inspiration strikes.Talking Shrimp is a wild ride, and this episode captures that spirit perfectly. Mitchell and Joel will definitely be back on The Biscuit, but for now, dive into their world and enjoy the madness: https://open.spotify.com/show/1tQc3xM2yb77ysG5FOILt9?si=0136db9e43f24618

2026-01-261:20:03

This week’s episode of The Shrewsbury Podcast comes to you from Oswestry Library. Oswestry?! Yes, Oswestry. Called With Love From, it’s a beautifully simple concept: borrow occasion-wear using your Shropshire Library card, wear it, then return it once it’s been laundered.Cool, right? But this idea goes far beyond a fun community project. Lizzie talks about the environmental impact of mass-produced, fast-fashion clothing and how With Love From gives items sitting at the back of wardrobes a brand-new lease of life.Towards the end of the episode, you’ll also hear from Oswestry Library’s Operations and Development Manager, Siobhan Shaw, who discusses the constant changes and challenges facing a modern, evolving library.Find out more about With Love From here: https://www.withlovefrom.org.uk/Intro/Outro music: Talk by Ease The Artist

2026-01-121:24:29

Today’s episode features long-time friend of the show, producer Luke Allen, who turns up with a mystery guest. Alex had no idea who was coming or where the conversation was heading. That guest is Merryn Rae Peachey, an experienced script supervisor from the world of TV and film. Merryn joins Luke to talk openly about her decision to step away from the industry, and why meaningful change around inclusion still feels a long way off. With movements like #MeToo bringing promised reforms around safety and fairness, the question remains: are these changes truly being implemented, or are they just industry optics? Luke and Merryn dig into the realities of working on set, the changes they’d like to see, and what true inclusivity should actually look like.Merryn has since written a powerful parting piece titled Leaving the Dream, reflecting on her exit from the industry, which you can read on her Substack.Big thanks to Luke for bringing a great conversation, and to Merryn — always nice to make a new friend. That’s what this podcast game is all about.Intro/outro music: Talk by Ease the Artist

Alex Whiteley welcomes back a good friend of the show, Hans Donner — a skydiving, base-jumping badass from Shropshire.A lot can happen in 18 months (or however long it’s been since Hans last joined Alex), and this guy has been up to some pretty incredible adventures. Not only does Hans live an extraordinary life involving jumps out of planes and backflips off bridges dressed as Spider-Man, he also gets invited on some very cool trips. Most recently, Hans took part in a skydiving expedition over Mount Everest, which in itself is a pretty great story to tell. It’s always great catching up with Hans — he always has the best stories — and we’ll be doing part three in the new year, hopefully from an airfield.Note: This episode was edited on a new laptop with a higher processing rate, so my outro music file got corrupted and I was away from the original source. No outro music… but maybe that’s a sign, eh?

The Shrewsbury Biscuit Podcast: Shrewsbury Food Festival 2025

2025-08-011:15:12

Welcome to the coverage of one of the best events in the Shropshire calendar, Shrewsbury Food Festival.Tune in as Alex takes his mic for a walk around the festival for the 2 days. Focussing mainly on chefs, food and businesses Alex manages to collect stunning interviews with the likes of Stuart Collins: Docket Restaurant, Christiaan De Vries: Great British Bake Off, Adam Purnell: Embers and The Caketoonist: Tat Effby plus many, many more. The Food Festival in Shrewsbury offers so much but one of the things we love so much about the event is that so many grass routes companies come together in one place to sell their wares. One-such was The Shropshire Scratching Company who, 6 weeks into their birth got absolutely ravaged by customers, selling out all of their stock. A great success story for these guys and the festival. It is always a joy to a part of this festival and words cannot describe the gratitude that us at The Shrewsbury Biscuit have for the whole team at Shropshire Festivals for always including us. Much love guys and here's to the next one!Outro Music: What I Miss by Josh Lobley
