The Inquiry Project
The Science Students of Brockton High School with Ms Nunes
The Inquiry Project features high school students exploring the science they study in anatomy, physiology, and biotechnology—beyond the textbook. Through thoughtful inquiry, students examine the ethical and social questions surrounding medicine, medical practices, scientific research, and biology, connecting classroom learning to real-world impact.

“Our podcast explores the ethical issue of informed consent in medical research, based on The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.” “Our essential question is: To what extent should patients fully understand and consent to how their biological samples are used in medical research?” “We claim that medical research must require clear, informed, and voluntary consent from patients before taking or using their biological samples, because people deserve control over their bodies, dignity, and transparency from doctors and scientists.”
E1- Ethical Consent with Justin
I am going to be discussing the informative consent issues within the medical field while making reference to the story of Henrietta lacks Throughout this podcast I will explore the implications and limitations of what ethical consent regulations could cause. The main question I will be exploring is “How can the broad legislation of informative consent policies pose possible healthcare limitations” From my research, I found that the broad approach ethical consent regulations could have a very significant effect on the prominent situations where informative consent cannot be given to or understood by a patient in danger and in need of medical care.
Introducing The Inquiry Project
Science and medicine are not neutral, and that informed, ethical inquiry—especially through student voices—can expose inequities, challenge injustice, and inspire meaningful change.
