Why Would Jesus Save Me // Week 6 - Kai Kiaha

2026-10-1333:18

October 11 at Genesis | Why Would Jesus Save Me? In Colossians 1, Paul writes to a small church we know almost nothing about and tells them the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world. It's the language of Genesis 1: be fruitful and multiply. So how does the gospel bear fruit in us? Picking up from last week, Kai walks through Luke 4, where Jesus reads Isaiah 61 in his hometown synagogue, rolls up the scroll, and tells everyone it's about him. He was anointed by the Spirit to bring good news to the poor, the prisoners, the blind, and the oppressed, and most of us fit somewhere on that list. In Acts 2 and Acts 5 we see what happens when people take that news seriously. A repentant people isn't a perfect people. They turn around. They wrestle with God and still choose him. They keep going when it costs them. The gospel bears fruit through a repentant people with an unrelenting devotion to Christ and his kingdom. Scripture & Themes Scripture: Colossians 1:3–6, Luke 4:14–21, Isaiah 61:1–2, Matthew 4:17, Acts 2:36–41, Acts 5:41–42, James 1:2–4 Themes: The gospel, fruitfulness, repentance, the anointing of the Spirit, the kingdom of God, good news, grace, confession, wrestling with God, suffering and perseverance, the resurrection, devotion to Christ, mission About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Why Would Jesus Save Me // Week 5 - Nick Fox

2026-10-0636:53

Week 5 | Where Is Jesus Now? Most tellings of the gospel stop at the empty tomb. Peter's sermon in Acts 2 keeps going. Jesus was raised, and then he was exalted to the right hand of God, which means he is somewhere doing something right now. Nick Fox continues our series on the gospel by asking what that means in an ordinary week, especially one where fear, addiction, injustice, death, or your own story feels bigger than Jesus does. Those things are real. The question is who sits above them. And the throne isn't where Jesus goes to get away from us. It's where he sends help from. He pours out the Holy Spirit so we aren't left as orphans, and so we have power to be his witnesses. You don't have to be whole before God uses you. Sometimes you get whole as you go. Scripture & Themes Scripture: Acts 2:14–39, Hebrews 1:3, Ephesians 1:20–21, John 14:16–18, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:18–20 Themes: The gospel, the ascension, Jesus on the throne, the lordship of Jesus, the finished work of the cross, the Holy Spirit, Pentecost, fear, suffering, no longer orphans, wholeness, power to witness, the Great Commission About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Why Would Jesus Save Me // Week 4 - Chris Wienand

2026-10-0438:19

This Week at Genesis | Why Will Jesus Save Me? What does the resurrection actually mean for us? In 1 Corinthians 15, Paul reminds us that the gospel stands on the reality that Christ died for our sins, was buried, and was raised from the dead. Through the stories of Emmaus, Thomas, and Peter, we see that the risen Jesus meets us in disappointment, renews our faith when we struggle to believe, and restores us to our true calling. The resurrection is not only something we believe happened—it is the hope that Jesus still reveals Himself, renews us, and restores us. This Week at Genesis | Why Would Jesus Save Me? As we continue our 8-week series exploring the gospel of Jesus, Chris takes us back to the beginning to ask what kind of Savior we actually need. In Genesis 3, humanity’s rebellion brings shame, fear, blame, and distance from God—but even there, God points toward a coming Savior. John 1 reveals that this Savior is Jesus: fully God and fully human, the Word who became flesh and made His dwelling among us. Through the stories of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, we see a Jesus who not only has the power to save, but who enters into the pain and reality of human life. The gospel is the story of God coming near—bringing grace, truth, comfort, and ultimately salvation through Christ. Why Would Jesus Save Me - Week 1 // Chris Wienand

2026-09-1141:37

This Week at Genesis | Why Would Jesus Save Me? As we begin our 8-week series exploring the gospel of Jesus, Chris asks a foundational question: Why would Jesus save me? Looking at the story of humanity’s rebellion in Genesis 3, we see how doubt, self-rule, shame, fear, blame, and relational distance entered the story. But the gospel tells us that this is not where the story ends. In the face of our rebellion and brokenness, God moves toward us with love. Through Jesus, we are offered a Savior who enters our story, bears our sin, and brings redemption where we could never save ourselves. Strengthen the Stakes - Storytelling | Chris Weinand

2026-09-0238:14

This Week at Genesis | Storytelling As we continue our Strengthening the Stakes series, we turn to Storytelling and the powerful way stories shape how we understand our lives, our past, and our future. The Bible tells the story of God unfolding through the stories of men and women, ultimately centered around the redemption of Christ. Through 1 Peter 1, we’re reminded that the gospel gives us a new birth and a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus. Our old story doesn’t have to define us—because in Christ, we are given a new beginning, a new identity, and a new story. As we find our story in Him, we discover a hope that is anchored in what Jesus has done, present in the life He gives us, and secure in what is still to come. Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Psalm 95:1–7, 1 Peter 1:3, Romans 7:24–25, 1 John 3:1 ✨ Themes: Storytelling, the story of God, finding our story in Christ, new birth, living hope, redemption, identity, grace, human narrative, the resurrection of Jesus, God's mercy, worship, gratitude, freedom from our old story, hope for the future About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Strengthen the Stakes - Mission // Kai & David

2026-08-1838:24

This Week at Genesis | A Life on Mission This week at Genesis, Kai and David tag-teamed a message on what it means to live a life on mission. Kai began by laying the foundation for our calling as followers of Jesus—reminding us that we have been called to follow Him, equipped with everything we need for a godly life, and sent to make disciples of all nations. Our mission isn't something separate from our everyday lives; it is the invitation to live faithfully as people who have been blessed to be a blessing. David then took the message from theology to practice, sharing practical ways we can live out that mission both locally and globally. As we strengthen our stakes, we are anchoring ourselves in the call to bring the gospel to the nations, raise up leaders, plant new Jesus-communities, and live as the church wherever God has placed us. Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Matthew 28:18–20, Matthew 4:19, Matthew 11:28–30, 2 Peter 1:3–11, Genesis 12:1–3, Romans 10:13–15, Revelation 7:9–12 ✨ Themes: A life on mission, following Jesus, the Great Commission, being equipped for a godly life, blessing the nations, making disciples, living sent, local and global mission, planting Jesus-communities About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Strengthen the Stakes - Prayer // Nick Fox

2026-08-1240:30

This Week at Genesis | Prayer This week in our Strengthening the Stakes series, we turned our attention to Prayer—exploring what it looks like to become a people who keep showing up before God and refuse to lose heart. Through Jesus’ parable of the persistent widow in Luke 18, we were reminded that persistence in prayer is an expression of enduring trust in the character of God, especially when we face delay, opposition, or disappointment. Chris was joined by Mattie for an honest conversation about prayer, personal dissatisfaction, and the ways God has shaped her through seasons of contemplative prayer, fasting, and breakthrough. We were challenged to embrace a deeper, even costly kind of prayer—travailing prayer that longs to see renewal in the church, revival among the lost, and ultimately the restoration of all things. Because when the Son of Man returns, will He find faith on the earth? Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Luke 18:1–8, Hebrews 4:14–16 ✨ Themes: Prayer, persistence, faith, travailing prayer, renewal, revival, restoration, the Kingdom of God, perseverance, God's character, waiting on God, spiritual breakthrough, Jesus our High Priest, mercy, grace, hope, intercession, not losing heart. Strengthen the Stakes - The Table | Chris Wienand

2026-08-0549:48

This Week at Genesis | The Table This week we continued our Strengthen the Stakes series by looking at The Table—a picture of the kind of community God is forming through His Church. Beginning in Isaiah 54 and Acts 2, we reflected on the convictions that shaped Genesis from the very beginning: Jesus at the center, devotion to His Word, and a people formed around shared life. The early church wasn't built around programs or performances, but around tables where people experienced belonging, hospitality, generosity, and the gospel together. As followers of Jesus, we're invited to practice the same kind of ordinary, intentional hospitality that welcomes strangers, forms disciples, and reflects the Kingdom of God. Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Isaiah 54:1–10, Acts 2:36–47 ✨ Themes: The table, hospitality, community, belonging, devotion, breaking bread, generosity, welcoming strangers, discipleship, the early church, the Kingdom of God, mission, ordinary hospitality, family, biblical conviction, Jesus-centered community. Ephesians Week 5 // I Kneel Before the Father // Chris Wienand

2026-04-2835:22

This Week at Genesis | I Kneel… I Pray… I Pray From Paul’s prayer in Ephesians 3, we’re invited into a posture and a practice—kneeling before the Father and praying for something deeper than surface change. This message explores what it means to be strengthened by the Spirit in our inner being, to live rooted in the love of Christ, and to experience a power that is formed in God’s presence and in community. We also reflect on how practices like fasting help clear what clutters our souls, realign us with God’s purposes, and make room for fresh movement in our lives.   Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Ephesians 3:14–21; James 5:16; John 13:34–35; Luke 5:37–39 ✨ Themes: Kneeling before the Father in humility and dependence, Being strengthened by the Spirit in our inner life, How sin, isolation, and distraction drain spiritual power   About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Ephesians Week 5 // God's Eternal Purpose // Chris Wienand

2026-04-2143:08

This Week at Genesis | Ephesians 3:1–13 In Epistle to the Ephesians 3, we step into Paul’s perspective on suffering, purpose, and what truly makes a life worth living. Writing from prison, Paul reframes everything—not as loss, but as calling. His life is anchored in something bigger than comfort or personal gain: the building of God’s temple and the formation of a new kind of community. At the center of it all is a mystery now revealed—God’s grace extended to all people—and an eternal purpose we are invited into. A life not driven by “what’s in it for me,” but by being part of what God is doing in the world.   📖 Scripture: Ephesians 3:1–13 ✨ Themes: Purpose over comfort, The mystery of Christ revealed, The Church as God’s dwelling and family, Living for something eternal About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Call to Fast // Chris Wienand

2026-04-1341:00

This Week at Genesis | An Invitation to Intimacy - Fasting Throughout Scripture, God’s people fasted when they longed to draw near to Him and seek His guidance. As a church, we consider how practices like fasting and prayer help cultivate intimacy with God and a shared culture of seeking Him together. GOD IS CALLING US TO DEEPER INTIMACY WITH HIM We want to invite you to join us for our 3 day Water Fast happening May 1-3. God is up to something... Ephesians Week 4 // God's Workmanship // Daena Dooley

2026-04-0334:59

This Week at Genesis | Ephesians 2:10–22 In Ephesians 2, Paul reminds us that the gospel does more than change individual lives—it creates a new people. In a world shaped by hostility, division, and fear, Jesus tears down the dividing wall that separates us and brings those who were once far away near to God and to one another. Through His death and resurrection, Christ makes peace and forms one new humanity. The church becomes not just a gathering of individuals, but a living temple where God dwells by His Spirit. In Christ, strangers become family, and those who belong to Him belong to His people. 📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:10–22 ✨ Themes: • Jesus destroys the dividing wall of hostility • Through Christ, divided people become one new humanity • God is building His people into a dwelling place for His Spirit   About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. 2026-03-2441:03

This Week at Genesis | Made Alive in Christ In Ephesians 2, we’re invited to see the full story of what God has done for us. Once shaped by the patterns of the world, we find ourselves in need of something deeper than self-improvement—something only God can do. But God. In His mercy and great love, He meets us right where we are—making us alive in Christ, raising us into new life, and giving us a new place to stand. This is the work of grace from beginning to end. And from that place, we begin to see that we are His workmanship—formed with intention, and invited to step into a life of purpose He has already prepared. 📖 Scripture: Ephesians 2:1–10 ✨ Themes: From death to life Grace, not works Identity in Christ Living with purpose About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Ephesians Week 2 // Prayer of an Apostle // Chris Wienand

2026-03-1743:16

This Week at Genesis | Prayer of an Apostle In Epistle to the Ephesians 1, Paul gives us a powerful picture of what it means to pray. “I keep asking…” A persistent prayer that we would truly know God — to see the hope we’re called to, the richness of our inheritance, and the power at work within us. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead. Empires rise and fall, but Jesus remains above it all. And His church is still here. Ephesians Week 1 // "in Christ" // Nick Fox

2026-03-1049:03

This Week at Genesis | Ephesians 1:1–14 Nick Fox kicked off our new series in Ephesians by walking through the opening passage of Paul’s letter and the powerful reminder of who we are in Christ. In these first verses, Paul keeps returning to one phrase: “in Christ.” It’s a simple idea, but it carries incredible depth. Through Jesus we are chosen, redeemed, forgiven, and brought into God’s family. Paul describes it as adoption—a picture of God lovingly bringing us in and giving us a new identity that isn’t based on what we’ve done, but on His grace. This passage also reminds us that God’s work didn’t start with us. Before the foundation of the world, God had a plan to bring everything together in Christ—and we’re invited into that story. Because of Jesus, we now live as people who are loved, chosen, and sealed with the Holy Spirit as a promise of what’s to come. 📖 Scripture: Ephesians 1:1–14 ✨ Themes: Identity in Christ, Adoption into God’s family, Grace and redemption, God’s bigger story, Sealed with the Holy Spirit About Genesis Costa Mesa: We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Christian View of Money - A life of trustful stewardship under God | Stu Dooley

2026-03-0346:01

This Week at Genesis | A Christian View of Money Money promises security without dependence. But Jesus invites us into something deeper — a life of trustful stewardship under God. This week, Stu shared vulnerably from his own story — how God has used generosity to reshape his trust, loosen his grip, and invite him into deeper stewardship. Not obligation. Not pressure. But participation. In Gospel of Matthew 14, a young boy offers a simple lunch — five loaves and two fish. It doesn’t look like much. Yet when placed in the hands of Jesus, it becomes more than enough. Whatever we have, large or small, is simply our lunch. We offer it. God multiplies it. As a church family, we’ve seen this firsthand — lives shaped, needs met, and resources released for the sake of the gospel. The question beneath it all is quiet but confronting: If someone looked at how you use money, what would it reveal about your trust? Where is your next step?   About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community on mission, shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Drive the Stakes Deep // Hope & Healing - Week 6 // Chris Wienand

2026-02-1725:39

This Week at Genesis | Sent to Multiply This weekend felt a little different for us as a church as we gathered to pray over Tyler and Haylee — part of the core family who helped shape our community from the early days — and sent them out with blessing into what God has next. Through passages in Genesis and Isaiah, we were reminded that God is a Creator, that following Him is an adventure, and that His people are designed to flourish in community, multiply, and be sent into the world carrying the good news of His love. Together we reflected on the mission of every believer: to trust God, step out in faith, and live as people who go wherever He leads. 📖 Scripture: Isaiah 54:1–3, Genesis 1–2   About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Jesus, The Woman and The Law // Hope & Healing - Week 4 // Chris Wienand

2026-01-2738:55

Chris continued our Hope & Healing series with the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4 — a story that puts the staggering love of Jesus on display. This is love that isn’t thin, polite, or distant — it’s lavish. It’s extravagant, abundant, even offensive in how far it goes. It shows us the height, depth, and width of God’s affection for us — a love that seeks, restores, heals, and makes whole. Hope and healing begin with posture — the posture of being seen, known, and loved. — About Genesis Costa Mesa: We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission — a community on mission together. From salt and light in Matthew 5:13 to Jesus’ encounter with the Samaritan woman in John 4, we were invited to consider how hope enters the most unlikely places and how healing unfolds when we allow ourselves to be seen and known by Jesus. Hope & Healing // Week 1 // Nick Fox

2026-01-0547:55

This Week at Genesis | Hope & Healing — Week 1 Nick Fox kicked off our new series, Hope & Healing, inviting us to reflect on what God is doing in our church and wrestle honestly with the space between faith, disappointment, and trust. Faith isn’t certainty—it’s trusting God even when outcomes don’t match our expectations. Jesus’ ministry showed us the rhythm of the Kingdom: teaching truth, proclaiming good news, and healing the sick. He didn’t just talk about hope—He lived it. And now, that same mission is ours: to bring His compassion and healing into the world around us. This message is both an invitation and a challenge: don’t make your faith smaller or safer. Step into obedience, even when the outcome is uncertain, and pray with honesty: “I believe—help my unbelief.” About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Advent Week 3 // Love // Kai Kiaha

2025-12-2314:56

This Sunday, Kai closed our Advent journey by reminding us that love is the why behind Christmas. From 1 Corinthians 13, we were invited to see love not as a feeling, but as an enduring act—one that draws us deeper into knowing Jesus and becoming more like Him. We were created to be His beloved, and we’re encouraged to keep praying that God would form us into a more loving people each day. Merry Christmas, Genesis 🤍 Our next gathering will be in the new year on January 4th. Be sure to follow along on social media for updates, and check out our refreshed website for what’s ahead. Advent Week 2 // Peace // Hannah Walser

2025-12-1637:30

This Week at Genesis | Peace In this Advent message, Hannah reflects on peace as God’s gracious response to human fear. From the garden, where humanity hides in shame, to the prophets who proclaim good news, Scripture reveals a God who seeks us out, covers our vulnerability, and draws near with mercy. Peace is not something we manufacture—it is something we receive as God comes near. Hannah also invites us to reconsider one of our most beloved Advent songs, Silent Night. What if the “silence” was not the quiet absence of noise, but the silencing of fear? In the birth of Jesus, the deepest anxieties of the world are met not with calm circumstances, but with the presence of a Savior. The night may not have been still, but fear no longer had the final word. Through the promises of Isaiah and the story of Zechariah and Elizabeth, we see that God’s peace unfolds through covenant faithfulness and redemption. The angel’s words—“Do not be afraid”—echo across generations, pointing to a salvation that shines light into darkness and guides our feet into the way of peace. Scripture & Themes 📖 Scripture: Genesis 3:7–10, 21; Isaiah 52:7; Isaiah 11:5–9; Luke 1:5–25, 67–79 ✨ Themes: Peace, fear and hope, God’s presence, Advent, salvation About Genesis Costa Mesa: We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Advent Week 1 // Joy // Judah Danganan & Tyler Larson

2025-12-0928:39

This Week at Genesis | Advent Week 1 — The Joy of Christ This Sunday we hosted an Apprentice Sunday where we give opportunities to rising young leaders a chance to lead in our Sunday space, this week Judah and Tyler from Biola gave a wonderful sermon on Joy. Judah and Tyler opened our Advent season by leading us into the deep joy found in Christ. As part of our Apprentice Sunday, we created space for the youth of our church to step into their gifts, offering them the opportunity to learn, serve, and lead. Together, they guided us into the heart of Advent—beginning where Scripture begins: with good news of great joy. Rooted in Luke 2:8–14, they reminded us that joy is not grounded in circumstance but in the unchanging character of God. Joy comes from the safety, freedom, and hope found in a Savior who stepped into our world and into our story. Judah and Tyler walked us through: 1. The history and meaning of Advent—a season of waiting, hope, and preparation. 2. The good news of great joy—announced to shepherds and offered to all people. 3. The joyful anticipation of His second coming—living in the tension of “already and not yet.” They also shared three practices that help us cultivate joy in everyday life: Walk by the Spirit (Gal. 5:16–25) Choose joy (Phil. 4:4) Suffer well (James 1:2–4) As we step into this season, we begin with joy—the kind that anchors us, strengthens us, and draws us deeper into the story of Jesus. 📖 Scripture: Luke 2:8–14; Galatians 5:16–25; Philippians 4:4; James 1:2–4 ✨ Themes: Joy in Christ, Advent, life in the Spirit, choosing joy, enduring through trial About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Sacred Assignment // A Chaotic Ending - Nehemiah 13 // Chris Wienand

2025-12-0240:36

In the final chapter of Nehemiah, Chris closed our series by showing us that the story of renewal doesn’t end with perfectly rebuilt walls—but with the honest reality of human hearts. Nehemiah 13 opens with hope, yet ends in heartbreak as the people drift again and Nehemiah returns to find compromise, neglect, and spiritual forgetfulness. But instead of despair, this chapter gives us a sobering and timely reminder: the work God is doing in us is ongoing, sacred, and deeply dependent on His presence. The story calls us to become a people formed by practices that keep our hearts anchored to Him. Chris walked us through six defining cultures of a faithful people: A Culture of Biblical Priority — the people rediscover the Book of Moses (vv. 1–3) A Culture of Radicalism — Nehemiah clears the temple with fierce conviction (vv. 4–9) A Culture of Generosity — refusing to neglect the house of God (vv. 10–14) A Culture of Worship — reclaiming Sabbath as trust, rest, and remembrance (vv. 15–22) A Culture of Community — choosing covenant faithfulness over compromise (vv. 23–29) A Culture of Assignment — every person stepping into the work God gives (v. 30) 📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 13 ✨ Themes: Renewal, holiness, cultural formation, spiritual drift, sacred assignment About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Sacred Assignment // The Return to Holy Rhythms - Nehemiah 12 // Daena Dooley

2025-11-2640:47

This Week at Genesis | Nehemiah 12 Daena led us through Nehemiah 12 by reminding us that the true work of renewal is not the rebuilding of stones but the rebuilding of souls. Nehemiah shows us a community returning to the rhythms that reshape the heart—holy purification, right worship, and faithful offering. Through Scripture, church tradition, and prophetic warnings, we’re invited to see how easily the human heart drifts toward forgetfulness and self-reliance. From Hosea to Deuteronomy to Psalms, the story is the same: when God blesses us, we’re tempted to forget Him. Yet the call of Nehemiah 12 is a return—a recommitment to worship, holiness, and generosity as practices that realign our souls to God. This week was a sober but hope-filled reminder: renewal begins when worship is restored, when idolatry is confronted, and when our offerings flow from a heart wholly belonging to God. 📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 12; Hosea 13; Deuteronomy 8 & 31; Psalm 81 ✨ Themes: Renewal, worship, holiness, generosity, returning to God About Genesis Costa Mesa: We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Sacred Assignment // A Story Worth Telling - Nehemiah 9 // Chris Wienand

2025-11-1145:01

This Week at Genesis | Nehemiah 9 This week, we walked through Nehemiah 9 — a moment where Israel remembers their whole story with God. The chapter reveals the pattern many of us know in our own lives: confession, freedom, wilderness, blessing, and rebellion. And yet, through every season, God’s mercy and faithfulness never waver. Nehemiah reminds us: We find God in confession — where our hearts are revealed and met with grace. We find God in freedom — remembering the One who delivers and sustains. We find God in the wilderness — even when we forget, resist, or wander. We find God in blessing — receiving provision we did not earn. We find God in rebellion — because He is the God who does not abandon His people. “But in Your great mercy You did not put an end to them or abandon them…” (Nehemiah 9:31) This is our foundation: a God who is mighty, merciful, and committed to dwelling with His people. 📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 9 ✨ Themes: God’s faithfulness, remembering our story, transformation of the heart About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. A Sacred Assignment // A People with New Hearts - Nehemiah 8 // Tyler Cockrum

2025-11-0542:42

Tyler led us through Nehemiah 8, where Israel gathers to hear the Scriptures read aloud after returning from exile. What looks at first like a simple moment of renewed devotion is actually part of a much larger story — a story of longing for God’s presence to return. Nehemiah isn’t ultimately about leadership strategies or personal self-rebuild. It is the story of a God who refuses to give up on dwelling with His people. Israel rebuilt the temple, rebuilt the walls, and returned home — but the presence of God did not yet return. Their hearts still needed to be made new. This chapter points forward to the moment when “the Word became flesh and tabernacled among us” (John 1:14) — Jesus Himself, the true presence of God dwelling with His people. And now, through the Holy Spirit, we are the temple — the dwelling place of God. The invitation for us today: “Holy Spirit, renew my heart. Make me a home for Your presence.” 📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 8; John 1:14; Jeremiah 31; Zechariah 2 ✨ Themes: The presence of God, new hearts, longing & fulfillment, the Spirit dwelling in us About Genesis Costa Mesa We are a Jesus-centered community shaped by the table, worship, prayer, story, and mission. Coping with Opposition // A Sacred Assignment // Chris Wienand

2025-10-0748:26

This week, Chris taught from Nehemiah 4. In the midst of rebuilding, Nehemiah and his people faced relentless pressure—yet their persistence became a model for how we’re called to live: steadfast, courageous, and full of the Spirit. Chris challenged us to imagine what our church might look like if each of us carried the same resilient heart for God’s Spirit—pushing through fear, doubt, and imposter syndrome to pursue the sacred assignments before us. Living a Life of Meaning // A Sacred Assignment - Nehemiah // Chris Wienand

2025-09-0940:18

This Week at Genesis | Nehemiah 1:1–11 Chris W began our new series on Nehemiah by showing us how what feels like an inconvenient placement can actually be God’s perfect positioning. Nehemiah was “just” a cupbearer, yet God used that role to prepare him for a much bigger purpose. In the same way, our circumstances—whether comfortable or inconvenient—are often the very spaces where God is working out His greater plan. 📖 Scripture: Nehemiah 1:1–11 ✨ Themes: God’s providence in our placement, finding purpose in inconvenience, trusting His bigger plan

The Next Genesis Chapter // A Sacred Assignment - Nehemiah // Chris Wienand

2025-08-1852:28

This week at Genesis, we’re celebrating a new chapter—we’re moving! Chris takes us back through our history, highlighting where we’ve come from so we can better understand where God is leading us next. This move isn’t just about a new location, but about carrying forward the heart of Genesis into a new space where God can continue to grow and shape us. We hold onto the promise of Isaiah 54:2: “Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes.” We believe God is calling us to expand and prepare for the future He has in store. 🗓 A new chapter is beginning 📖 Scripture: Isaiah 54:2 🔔 Stay tuned for details and ways to join us in this move
