The Humble and Exalted Christ - October 4th, 2026

2026-10-0535:29

The message opens in the Roman colony at Philippi, where a man's offices were carved in stone in the order he had climbed them, and sets that culture of honor beside a church where rivalry and selfish ambition had opened a division. Rather than offering a process for resolving conflict, Paul points the congregation to a Christ who, though he was in the form of God, emptied himself by taking the form of a servant and humbled himself to the point of death on a cross. The message follows that descent and the exaltation that answered it, closing on the conviction that humility is not a strategy for getting along but the family resemblance of a people who belong to Jesus Christ. This sermon was preached on Sunday, October 4, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. To Live is Christ - September 27th, 2026

2026-09-2835:54

Writing from prison without knowing whether his trial would end in release or execution, Paul considers both outcomes openly and without pretending they do not weigh on him. The message observes that the question governing him is not what will become of me but how Christ will be honored through me, and traces how that settled perspective reorders everything around it. It closes by commending that same mind to the congregation, not as a slogan but as the heart of who they are together. This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 27, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. They Did Not Stop the Gospel - September 20th, 2026

2026-09-2136:21

Word reaches Philippi that Epaphroditus, sent by the church to carry a gift to Paul in Rome, has fallen gravely ill, and Paul himself remains in chains. The message works through Paul's response, that his imprisonment has served to advance the gospel even into the imperial guard, and that Christ is proclaimed whether the motives behind the preaching are pure or rivalrous. It ends where Paul does, with a man who had lost every form of control and still had Christ, and found that sufficient. This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 20, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Thanksgiving and Prayer - September 13th, 2026

2026-09-1432:07

The message returns to the congregation Paul is addressing, a church of unlikely people whom God gathered in Philippi after redirecting Paul's plans twice. It works through Paul's thanksgiving and prayer for them, drawing out how Philippians speaks to the way believers think, suffer, handle conflict and pursue holiness alongside one another rather than alone. It closes on the destination Paul keeps in view for the church, the glory and praise of God rather than their own. This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 13, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Intro to Philippians - September 6th, 2026

2026-09-0732:17

The message introduces a twelve-week series through Philippians, the warmest of Paul's letters and one written by a man in chains to a church he loved. Working from only the first two verses, it shows why a greeting deserves unhurried attention and uses the occasion to restate how Scripture is read and taught at Providence. It closes on the conviction that trusting God in the worst circumstances is better than trusting oneself in the best. This sermon was preached on Sunday, September 6, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Astonished or Changed? - August 30th, 2026

2026-08-3129:00

The final message in the Sermon on the Mount series sets aside a verse-by-verse treatment in order to read the end of Matthew 7 and the beginning of Matthew 8 as the single unbroken account Matthew wrote, before chapter divisions were added. It follows the crowds down from the mountain, astonished at the authority of Jesus, to the leper who comes to him and is willingly cleansed. The message draws the distinction its title names, between being astonished at Christ and being changed by him. This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 30, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. A Firm Foundation - August 23rd, 2026

2026-08-2431:54

The message opens with a high-rise that began to sink and lean because its foundation had been driven into hard-packed sand rather than bedrock, a failure invisible in the finished building. It works through the closing parable of the Sermon on the Mount, where two houses face the same storm and are distinguished only by what lies beneath them. It closes on the wise builder as the one who hears the words of Christ and does them. This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 23, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. False Hope - August 16th, 2026

2026-08-1733:34

The message begins with the sheer volume of Christian teaching now available to any believer at any hour, and the discernment that such abundance requires rather than removes. It works through the warning about false prophets who come in sheep's clothing, the fruit by which they are known, and the sobering words of Jesus to those who claimed his name while he never knew them. It closes by calling the congregation back to Christ himself, so that whatever is done for him flows from the relationship he began rather than from busyness in his name. This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 16, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Narrow Gate - August 9th, 2026

2026-08-1030:02

The message sets two paths side by side, one broad and easy from the first step and one hard and narrow with light only at its end, and asks honestly which of them draws us. It works through the narrow gate and the wide one, observing how readily we choose by the first steps rather than by the destination. It closes with the assurance that the one who is himself the gate walks the road with his people and has promised to bring them safely home. This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 9, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Goodness of God - August 2nd, 2026

2026-08-0336:55

The message opens with the familiar scene of a child convinced that a parent's refusal makes that parent unkind, and the gratitude that often arrives only years later. It works through the invitation to ask, seek and knock, and the argument Jesus makes from earthly fathers to the Father who gives good things to those who ask him. It closes on praying that God's will be done with confidence in who stands on the other side of the door. This sermon was preached on Sunday, August 2, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Clear Vision - July 26th, 2026

2026-07-2739:10

The message opens with a small blemish noticed once in a first apartment and never afterward unseen, and turns that into the question of what we have trained ourselves to look for in other people. It works through the warning against judgment, the log and the speck, and the order Jesus gives for attending to one's own sight first. It closes on the conviction that the best thing one person can do for another is to point them to the Christ who rescued and restored us, rather than to take his place in their life. This sermon was preached on Sunday, July 26, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Anxious For Nothing - July 19th, 2026

2026-07-2036:36

Continuing from the previous week, the message restates that no one can serve two masters and that the Father is not an employer whose approval must be earned but one who has already given everything. It works through the words of Jesus on anxiety, on the birds and the lilies and the measure of a single day's trouble, and on seeking first the kingdom of God. It closes by commending patience, understanding and trust in the promises the passage holds out. This sermon was preached on Sunday, July 19, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Store Up Treasure in Heaven - July 12th, 2026

2026-07-1341:16

The message opens with the question of how we decide what something is worth, framed by the ordinary exercise of naming what one would carry out of a house in a hurry. It works through Matthew 6:16-24, from fasting done in secret to treasure that moth and rust cannot reach, and on to the impossibility of serving both God and money. It closes on gratitude as the doorway out of worry and into trust. This sermon was preached on Sunday, July 12, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Two Passports: Christian Citizenship in a Nation Worth Loving - July 5th, 2026

2026-07-0639:31

Preached on the weekend of the nation's two hundred and fiftieth anniversary, the message takes up how a Christian holds citizenship in a country and citizenship in heaven at the same time. It works through Paul's use of his Roman citizenship in Acts alongside his declaration that our citizenship is in heaven, together with the enduring city of Hebrews 13. It closes on living faithfully in the present city while setting hope on the city that is to come, loving both and worshiping one. This sermon was preached on Sunday, July 5, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Lord's Prayer - June 28th, 2026

2026-06-2941:38

The message opens with the common worry that prayer is something to be gotten right, and the search for a formula that such worry produces. It works through Matthew 6:5-15, from praying in secret and without empty repetition to the pattern Jesus gives, petition by petition. It closes on prayer as the speech of those invited into relationship with a Father in heaven, approached with both reverence and nearness in Christ. This sermon was preached on Sunday, June 28, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Audience of One - June 21st, 2026

2026-06-2235:20

The message opens with the quiet disappointment of doing good that no one notices, and the culture that has grown up around the publicly recorded good deed. It works through Matthew 6:1-4, the warning of Jesus against practicing righteousness in order to be seen, and the reward already collected by those who have been seen. It closes on the Father who sees in secret, an audience of one that is not a smaller audience but the only one that finally matters. This sermon was preached on Sunday, June 21, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Love Your Enemies - June 14th, 2026

2026-06-1537:41

The message takes up the teaching of Jesus on retaliation and on love for enemies, set within the larger pattern of the Sermon on the Mount. It works through Matthew 5:38-45, from turning the cheek and going the second mile to loving and praying for those who persecute, as the conduct proper to children of the Father in heaven. It closes not with an exhortation to try harder but with a call to look to Christ, and to pray both for one's enemies and for one's own heart. This sermon was preached on Sunday, June 14, 2026 by Pastor Brent Daniel at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Living as People of Truth - June 7th, 2026

2026-06-0845:55

The message opens with the observation that insistence on one's own honesty tends to undermine it, and sets that beside the oath-taking Jesus addresses. It works through the teaching on swearing by heaven, by earth or by Jerusalem, and the simplicity Jesus commends instead, that a yes be yes and a no be no. It closes in prayer, giving thanks for a God who is himself trustworthy and has been faithful to his people. This sermon was preached on Sunday, June 7, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. He is Defending Something Holy - May 31st, 2026

2026-06-0143:55

The message begins in Genesis 2 rather than Matthew 5, establishing the covenant of marriage as it was first given before taking up what Jesus says about divorce. It works through the certificate of divorce the religious leaders had come to rely upon and the far weightier view of the marriage covenant that Jesus restores. It closes on the conviction that Jesus is not restricting something good but defending something holy, and on marriage understood as gospel ministry. This sermon was preached on Sunday, May 31, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Your Heart is the Battlefield - May 24th, 2026

2026-05-2443:30

In the sixth message of the Sermon on the Mount series, the pattern continues of Jesus taking a law the religious leaders believed they had mastered and showing that they had never truly understood it. It works through the teaching on adultery and lust and the severe language of tearing out and cutting off, with the request that each person receive the passage as addressed to them rather than to someone else. It closes in prayer that God would enlarge small souls and cause lesser loves to lose their power. This sermon was preached on Sunday, May 24, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. 25th Anniversary: Wisdom for a Crooked World - March 8th, 2026

2026-03-0939:02

Preached on the church's twenty-fifth anniversary, the message pauses over Solomon's call to consider the work of God and turns it toward twenty-five years of faithfulness at Providence. It works through the crooked things no one can straighten, the counsel to be joyful in prosperity and to reflect in adversity, and the warning against both self-righteousness and recklessness. It closes on the fear of the Lord as what carries a congregation through, and on thanks to a church that once gave the preacher and his family a place to breathe. This sermon was preached on Sunday, March 8, 2026 by Pastor Stacey Johnson at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Vanity of Wealth - March 1st, 2026

2026-03-0244:09

The message opens with the observation that popular music has only ever had two subjects, love and money, because those are the two promises the world has to offer. It works through Solomon's distinction between having money and loving it, and the restlessness of an appetite that grows faster than any income can satisfy. It closes on Christ, who was rich and became poor, and on a security held in him rather than in an account. This sermon was preached on Sunday, March 1, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Worship That Trembles - February 22nd, 2026

2026-02-2337:31

The message opens at a wedding interrupted by a lawnmower, and the question of what it means to miss the weight of the moment you are standing in. It works through Solomon's instruction to guard your steps when entering the house of God, to let your words be few, and to keep the vows you make. It closes on Christ, who never spoke rashly and never broke a vow, as the reason anyone can enter the presence of a holy God at all. This sermon was preached on Sunday, February 22, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Gift of Community - February 15th, 2026

2026-02-1642:26

The message opens with the epidemic of loneliness now described as a public health crisis, and the strangeness of being the most connected generation in history and among the most isolated. It works through the two pictures Solomon sets side by side, the productive man with no one to share his work and the strength of two who hold one another up. It closes on the threefold cord and on Christ, whose friends fled so that those who belong to him would never be spiritually orphaned. This sermon was preached on Sunday, February 15, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. Justice Delayed - February 8th, 2026

2026-02-0935:36

The message begins with the ordinary complaint that life is not fair and grants it, tracing the unfairness from a passed-over promotion to a diagnosis that lands on the wrong person. It works through Solomon's observation that wickedness sits even in the place of justice, and that the justice available in this world is temporary rather than final. It closes on the conviction that justice delayed is not justice denied, because God has appointed a time for every matter and judges both the righteous and the wicked. This sermon was preached on Sunday, February 8, 2026 by Pastor Brent Daniel at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The God Who Holds Time - February 1st, 2026

2026-02-0240:02

The message opens with time as the one authority that never asks our opinion, arriving on its own schedule whether or not we are ready. It works through the familiar poem of seasons, read not as comfort but as a statement about limits we did not set, and through the eternity God has placed in the human heart. It closes on Christ, who entered time, lived under its constraints and broke its final hold, so that waiting is no longer wasted. This sermon was preached on Sunday, February 1, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Burden of Work - January 25th, 2026

2026-01-2637:45

The message takes up the quiet disappointment that settles over work, the sense that effort keeps multiplying while satisfaction does not. It works through Solomon's confession that he hated his toil because he would have to leave it to someone else, and through the ache of a legacy no one can control. It closes on work as a gift rather than a savior, offered to God, where joy comes from his hand instead of from the outcome. This sermon was preached on Sunday, January 25, 2026 by Pastor Will Small at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Failure of Pleasure - January 18th, 2026

2026-01-1948:36

The message opens with a popular book on happiness that a friend once recommended, and the observation that Ecclesiastes had arrived at its conclusions some three thousand years earlier. It works through Solomon's deliberate experiment with pleasure, laughter, wine, houses and wealth, and his verdict that none of it produced lasting gain. It closes on Christ as the greater Solomon, who entered the world under the sun and offered himself as the gain Solomon could not find. This sermon was preached on Sunday, January 18, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. When Wisdom Fails - January 11th, 2026

2026-01-1246:31

The message begins with the childhood promise that knowledge is power, and sets it beside the experience of knowing far more about the world than we can do anything about. It works through Solomon's pursuit of wisdom, his conclusion that what is crooked cannot be made straight, and his warning that increasing knowledge increases sorrow. It closes on the difference between wisdom under the sun, which can name what is broken, and wisdom above the sun, which lives by faith in the God who alone can straighten it.This sermon was preached on Sunday, January 11, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California. The Quest for Meaning - January 4th, 2026

2026-01-0538:28

The message opens the Living Above the Sun series by naming a quiet exhaustion familiar to people who are doing everything right and still sense that something is missing. It works through Solomon's verdict that all is vanity, a Hebrew word closer to vapor than to worthlessness, and through the cycles of sun and wind and sea that move constantly without ever arriving. It closes on honesty as the beginning of wisdom, and on meaning as something received from the Creator rather than manufactured inside a closed world. This sermon was preached on Sunday, January 4, 2026 by Dr. Scott Hill at Providence Church Murrieta in Murrieta, California.
